Fashion & Beauty: How to Apply Blush…Get It Correct

Posted on 06 May 2012 at 9:43am

Applying blush at first can be tricky, but it’s all about being patient and using the right tools. You want to make sure you’re using the right blush brush. Preferably, you want a brush that’s dense enough to pick up color but still fluffy enough to deposit it softly.

Determine your face shape before applying blush. Concentrate blush on the center of the face for high cheekbones. A rounder fuller face looks good with dusty pink or rose blush at the outside of the face near the hairline. (more…)

Fashion & Beauty: Why Women Are Hooked On Hair Extensions

Fashion & Beauty: Why Women Are Hooked On Hair Extensions

Posted on 28 Apr 2012 at 8:17am

As a woman who chooses to wear hair extensions few times out of the year, I thought it wise to address the issue and also know people’s opinion on how these extensions work for them.

The average woman will always want to look good before she steps out especially paying close attention to hair.

Having had a chit chat with some few women out there, most of them gave different views as to why they will always go for hair extensions.

A friend who works in a Bank says she has a limited time during the week to do her own hair because of her busy schedule in the office. She therefore goes for the extensions so that she can focus on other domestic stuff during the weekend with her little out of Bank time.

Others friends are also of the view that, the hair extensions gives them a different look that makes them glow all the time, mentioning that the hair at point need to go through a transition so they use the extensions as a cover up to grow new hair.

I will like to emphasis on the fact that not every extension is suitable for the hair or face.

For those women who have been looking at hair extensions as a way to add extra length to their hair, and still want the hair to look as natural as possible, there is only one choice. The best way to achieve this look is to use the human hair.

Although you can find a number of different types of synthetic hair extensions on the market, you are going to find that the majority of them never look as good as you would like them to.

One of the greatest things about the human hair extensions is you will be able to treat the extensions in the same manner as you do your hair. This means that you can leave them on while you are showering and wash and condition them right along with your own hair. You can also use your curling iron to add style or change colours anytime you want. (more…)

How To Get The Perfect Makeover With The Appropriate Foundation That Fits Your Skin

How To Get The Perfect Makeover With The Appropriate Foundation That Fits Your Skin

At the cosmetics counter you are confronted with an array of choices – liquid, powder, cream, oil-free, allergy tested, cake, stick, stay-on, hypoallergenic, cream to powder, etc. It makes you confused and sometimes upset if you don’t have any idea on  how it will complement your face.

In as much as there’s different categorise to choose from; the skin type will determine which one will be appropriate for you

Most women prefer the liquid foundation because it’s easy to apply and it puts a natural look on them. In applying it, it should be blended in a little at a time until the entire face is completed.

Matte liquid foundations generally dry faster, so you may need to apply to one section of your face and blend, before moving on to another section. If you have a natural clear skin, liquid foundations may be your best option.

The cream foundation is the preferable choice for most makeup artiste; they are usually available in compacts or sticks and provide good coverage (more…)

New Fashion Lust: Printed Jeans or Leggins Anyone?

New Fashion Lust: Printed Jeans or Leggins Anyone?

Posted on 02 Aug 2011 at 8:35pm

It’s quite funny to me how something that seems so unimaginable and so far away from entering your wardrobe can suddenly seem applealing. I guess this is what fashion does to us. I’ve done so many posts talking about things I’d never wear (plazzo pants, animal print etc) and yet here I am again, the fashion victim. Everywhere I turn the shops are bulging at the seems with coloured jeans, I like the idea and may even try a pair on, but then I saw these AH-Mazing printed jeans on RnB singer Melanie Fiona recently. Safe to say I am on a mission to own these pair of jeans, somehow, someway.

Fanatical shopping talk aside, it appears I may be just a little behind on this particular fashion concept, just like it did when jeggins first made it’s first appearance… The shops and internet are all over this one.  Besides if fashion label Alexander McQueen knows what’s up then I’m more than happy to give it a go!

Check out the Topshop printed leggings/jeans range.

Do you love them?  Would/Could you wear them?

My celeb style crush this week NEEDS to be Kimora Lee Simmons aka KLS! Most would probably say she is better known as the ex-wife of Phat farm clothing line creator, Russell Simmons.

I, however think this OTT but splendid fashionsta doesn’t just have amazing style Kimora Lee Simmons is a veteran ex-super model who stands very tall at 6’0ft, an avid philanthropist, creator of Baby Phat clothing line and mother of three. Kimora rarely gets it wrong where style and fashion is concerned and this dress shows that chic style flawlessly.

Here Kimora Lee is wearing an amazing D&G animal print vintage dress, which much to my disappointment  she explains she purchased over 10years ago. Considering I find animal print a bit tacky and overdone at times, this dress is gorgeous. Kimora add minimal style with the strappy sandles by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Kimora wore the dress for ex-husbands Art for Life charity event over the weekend at East Hamptons New York. Also at the event was Mary J Blige, Lala Vasquez, model Jessica White in Valentino nude organza dress and performances from Jennifer Hudson who wore a interesting straw-like dress by ‘Tulle Lela Rose’.

So what do we think of the dresses. Which dresses are hot, which dresses are NOT?!

How To Spot A Fake Designer

How To Spot A Fake Designer

Even if you’ve never owned a Chanel, I’m sure you’d like to think if you were on a website or on hols in the East of Asia or On Ebay you’d know how to spot a fake. I’ve always said if I can’t afford the real thing then I’m not interested so I’d be well and truly p’d off I got sold a fake!

If you go out of your way to  buy a fake then nothing wrong with that, I’m no snob it’s a preference thing… but it’s not about people taking one look at your Chanel and giving you a fake smile because they know it’s a very obvious fake.  Elizabeth Bernstein shows The Wall Street Journal how you can spot a fake Chanel or Hermes handbag. I’m sure the same applies to all replica’s and good fakes. Take notes ladies.

Check out these tips on how to spot a fake…you learn something new here everyday! ‘wink wink’.

All The Glamour, Style & Chic At The Annual Costume Institute Gala

Glamour, Style & Chic descended upon New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art last night and our fav celebs were out in full force dripping in decadence. The event took place in honour of late Alexander McQueen who passed away last February. The evening was hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquiere and Cate Blanchett.

I can honestly say there really isn’t so many fashion disasters for the occasion, then I saw Naomi Campbell’s ‘dress’ but it’s an Alexander McQueen so we’ll let her have this one. If I had to choose I’d be hard pressed to make a decision as to which dress I adore the most.

In the end I have to say the Vera Wang dress worn by Lala Vasquez really stole my attention, even her hubby looks like he is in awe of her ‘wink wink’. Trust Vera Wang to create a simply beautiful dress yet in such an obvious way, but I love it.

Take your pick ladies…which one of these amazing gowns do you have your eye on?

A little Inspiration To Keep It Real n Keepin' It Natural...

A little Inspiration To Keep It Real n Keepin’ It Natural…

Oh how I wish I could say this song was perfect for me…I wear weaves, wigs and braids with the best of us. I love the idea that being more natural is becoming appealing. Celebs like Solange (Beyonce’s younger sister) are certainly adding to the natural afro appeal. It so much more less hassle and stress free having it natural plus it’s less damaging to our hair. I always worry what all that tugging and pulling and chemical exposure will lead to when I’m a much older women with grey hair. I guess if I don’t watch it, it’ll all fall out!

Check out this video from Dead Presidents dedicated to Mother’s Day and keeping it as real as we can. I’m a little more tempted to check out those natural styles after listening to this track.

Ever tempted to grow out the perm or take out the weave? P.S…this does not include weaves, braids, wigs or anything that looks similar to natural lookin’ hair ‘wink wink’.
