When it comes to make up, if you’re the type to always ‘play it safe’. I recommend coming out of your comfort zone! You never know, you’re likely to be pleasantly surprised. I came across the idea of trying coloured mascara in one of my weekly trashy magazines some years back. Electric Blue! I never would have thought to try it or even consider that it might suit me. I went to sample a good quality one and went for the YSL electric blue, at the time there were only two other brands that had similar colours and even they weren’t as bright and dearing.

Now you can get coloured mascara in a lot more shades and being the make up adventurous person I am have so far now tried purple, pink and green (I left the pink one behind). Have a look at the brands available to ask a counter make up artist to test one out or DIY.

Tips!

It’s sometimes better to use a white mascara primer for dark lashes. Doing this will really make the colour pop as coloured mascara won’t show so well on dark lashes.

If your lashes are long enough make sure you coat the top side of your upper lashes, not only will they appear thicker and longer but the colour will come out brighter and stronger.

As it’s eye make up, when using testers in the store use a cleaning wipe to clean of the brush before applying to minimize any issues.

Check out some of the current beauty brands that provide coloured mascara’s in different shades.

Personal Recommendations, Tried and Tested:

BLUE: YSL ‘Electric Blue’

PURPLE: URBAN DEACY ‘Purple Haze’

GREEN: MAC ‘Army of Amazon Green’

I have also tried and loved blue & purple Mascara. I got the blue one from Benefit which is really good because it isn’t a loud shade of blue, team it with blue eyeliner and you’ll look wow!. I tried sleek purple but the colour didn’t really pop. YSL is normally a bit pricey though!

Yes the purple is defo very subtle. The Urban Decay one was, but didn’t try it with the white primer first so that might make a difference. Yea YSL is about twenty quid so used it for nights out, it’s also VERY bright! But it made my lashes look thicker and longer so I pretty much got my money’s worth ;-)
