Tried, Tested & Recommended: Foundation – Time To ‘Make-Up’ Your Mind19 Comments

I’ve been complimented on my ‘good skin’ all my life, so as I got older and could no longer rely on my mums mixtures and potions I decided to take my skincare regime into my own hands, and share a few options with you all.

  • 1st word to start off – Body Shop – Their nature and skin friendly approach has served me well for a while now from the anti-blemish aloe vera cream and make-up wipes – to the coco butter, body butter that moisturises all day, and has people stopping me in the street asking me what products I use!
  • 2nd word  – Moisture – If your skin is dry then we’ll all know and your make-up won’t sit right. Products with Vitamin E are essential because they lock in moisture and tackle blemishes from the teenage years and beyond.
  • 3rd and finally – The make-up! To cater to all women and bank accounts we have four make-up options at four price points. Now I personally swear by Nars or Mac but a friend of mine adores FashionFair, yes you guessed it the vintage Fashion Fair that our mums and aunts all used and eventually stareted moving over to Mary Kay! So I have definitely covered all bases on the make up front I think you’ll agree!

NARS SHEER GLOW FOUNDATION

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation £29.50

This lush, creamy, silky , buttery soft liquid foundation goes on like a DREAM and matches your tone a treat. It’s brand used famously used by both Naomi Campbell and Kim Kardashian. If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me!

It’s just bliss applying this foundation, because it’s sheer it doesn’t appear cakey and because it’s good quality the coverage is excellent! Also I don’t mind the price because with the coverage you get with such a small amount of the product used  you will likely have it longer than any other foundations out there.  My only issue is it’s not very compact or handy so it’s not convineint to take around with and use for touch ups especially since it does not have a pump.

Tip! If you don’t already do this! Nars make-up specialist always recommned you use your clean finger tips to apply the product. It goes on smoother and it does not waste as much product. Using the sponges is alot messier I agree but you loose most of the product on the sponge and it does not blend as well.

MAC STUDIO FIX

Mac Studio Fix £19.00

I used this by itself for years and loved it, then began lightly dusting it over my Nars sheer glow and loved it even more! I found the Liquid foundation tended to be cakey and didn’t match my tone the way the powder did, plus the product finished quite quickly. A month and a half as opposed to my usual 2 months with the studio fix compact powder. It travels with me everywhere and I’ve converted about four ppl to it in  my time.

Plus if you collect six empties you can get a free lipstick – I recommend the Rebel shade for a nights out. It really makes that understated look POP!

MAYBELLINE DREAM MATTE  MOUSSE  FOUNDATION

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation £8.00

So when times were hard and Mac was a world away, I stumbled across this mousey foundation that was smooth and easy to apply and did the trick for an everyday foundation. The shades are impressively wide and you’re bound to find the right shade. This foundation is perfect for a liquid/powder inbetweener for someone who doesn’t want to spend too much on an everyday make-up.

SLEEK CREME TO POWDER FOUNDATION

SLEEK CREME TO POWDER FOUNDATION £7.00

Now this make-up company are steadily rising out of the corner shop ashes and being re-marketed in Superdrug as the go to makeup brand for every race of skin. Used religiously by a friend of mine it provides great coverage and a wide range of tones, as well as a smooth matte finish. Great for highly blemished skin. I would say it’s always very cool to be brave enough to try/sample unknown brands. Most of the time when I do this I generally get a pleasent surprise that I don’t regreat!

Tips! Don’t be afraid to ask! It’s ALL about the samples ladies! Some companies will even send you some if you call and ask them so send you some. I’ve done this a few times. It doesn’t always work but hey, why waste money on products that you haven’t tried yet right?

On a side note: I’ve just discovered:

MAC MINERALIZE SATINFINISH SPF15 LIQUID FOUDATION

Mac Mineraralize satinfinsh SPF15 Liquid Foundation £22.50.

Along with the sun protection benefits it gives a beautiful slightly luminous red carpet glow. Perfect for that special occasion but be careful it’s so lush you’ll be tempted to wear everyday!

Don’t sweat it hon I use FF still. I only use the loose powder because my skin type is oily and it’s the only powder that don’t make my nose shine like a strobe light lol. I’ve tried MAC and still get the shine so I use FF for now. I do plan to invest in the nars one though because i’ve tried the tester and it is ah-mazing!
